Concerning the Fangirls of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

So this morning I woke up, made breakfast and logged in to check my Twitter feed to find a most disturbing hashtag trending: FreeJahar. Now, for those that don't know, Jahar is the Twitter handle and nickname of Dzhokhar Tsarev, otherwise know as the youngest of the two Boston Bombers. However, most of you here reading this already know that, and are very familiar with the situation since the media has managed to plaster his face all over the news even almost a month later. We all know he is guilty, we have irrefutable evidence from photos, video, and witnesses on the scene that identified him as being one of the bombers.

Yet, I wake up and trending on Twitter is the hashtag FreeJahar.

Looking into it, I found that apparently Jahar has amassed a fandom of young girls, which honestly should have been is something that should have been expected. I had a feeling this would happen, I mean look at him:

This guy is smooth, suave, and looks like a real ladies' man. But underneath those good looks is a heartless monster, a mass murderer who indiscriminately killed and maimed so many people.

Right now, through out the day the tweets rolled in for support of this madman. They even managed to put up a petition on the White House website asking to relieve him of all charges.

I really have to ask, what is so wrong with this generation that FreeJahar manages to gather such momentum that it gets featured the trends panel? And the bad part is that for every person claiming he is innocent there are even more out there that think he should be freed just on the fact that he looked good.

Seeing this really brought me down today, knowing that there are some many people out there who are so shallow that they cannot see past a pretty face and see the ugliness and evil that dwell within. It made me nearly physically sick. And to think these are people that might be your co-workers, classmates, etc. These people vote and participate in society.

As it would turn out the person that is behind this tag is a friend of Jahar who also happens to be the leader of the "Boston Truth" movement (Troy Crossley) and is claiming that the government set the Tsarnaev brother's up. Despite the fact that the FBI knew well in advance that the two were a threat and the Russian government even issued a plea to have them arrested on terrorist charges. Yes, there are some very shady things about the whole situation, but there is no denying that the Tsarnaev brothers did carry out the tasks. The j3st3r actually did a very good breakdown of Crossley's tweets and interactions with Jahar and some of it does seem very revealing, like Troy might be covering his own ass. More than likely he knows somethings or is in complete denial.

What is terrifying and saddening here is how how a hashtag that was misguidedly (I could only hope, at least) aimed at proving Jahar's innocence has instead turned into praises and condolences from hoards of fangirls, many of them who know he his guilty and just don't care because they are turned on by his handsome features. That is what is most disheartening to realize. Most of these supporters do not support him because he is innocent, but because he is a heartless killer.

Some days, I really wish I didn't live on this planet...
